Tesco expands rapid delivery to Uber Eats and Deliveroo from August
Tesco rapid delivery expands to Uber Eats and Deliveroo

Tesco has announced a major expansion of its rapid delivery options, giving millions of British shoppers a new way to order everyday essentials and save money. The supermarket giant revealed plans to launch on both Uber Eats and Deliveroo, bringing express grocery delivery, Clubcard Prices and Clubcard points to a vast new customer base across the UK.

Rollout begins in August

The rollout will begin with Uber Eats this August, with Deliveroo following later in the summer. For the first time ever on third-party apps, shoppers will be able to link their Clubcard to access hundreds of exclusive Clubcard Prices and earn points on their orders.

The move builds on the success of Tesco's in-house rapid delivery service, Whoosh. Launched in 2021, Whoosh already delivers from 1,800 stores to over 70% of the UK population, offering deliveries in as little as 20 minutes.

Strong growth for Whoosh

The service has seen explosive growth, with sales surging by 51% last year as around 1.5 million customers regularly rely on it.

Tesco UK CEO Ashwin Prasad said: "Whoosh has transformed the way millions of customers shop with Tesco, offering speed, convenience and great value through the power of Clubcard. Launching with Uber Eats and Deliveroo will enable us to bring those benefits to even more customers."

"Our online business continues to go from strength to strength, and these partnerships represent another important step in expanding our reach. By combining Tesco's market-leading range, quality and value with the scale of Uber Eats and Deliveroo, we're making it even easier for more customers to shop with Tesco in the way that suits them best."

Growing demand for rapid grocery

The step forward comes as demand for rapid grocery shopping continues to grow. Tesco recently enhanced its Whoosh service to offer same-day delivery slots, no minimum spend options and larger basket orders at 250 of its larger superstores.

Delivery giants have also welcomed the partnership. Saskia De Jongh, vice president at Uber Eats, said: "As the UK's leading delivery platform, we are thrilled to partner with Britain's biggest supermarket. Uber Eats reaches over 90% of people in the UK, with more and more people choosing instant delivery for the everyday essentials that keep life moving."

"We can't wait to help bring Tesco's Clubcard Prices and quality products to an even wider range of customers this August."

Rob Harris, VP merchant and chief revenue officer at Deliveroo, added: "On-demand grocery is becoming an increasingly important part of many customers' lives, and we're delighted to be able to add Tesco to the Deliveroo platform, with the added value of Clubcard Prices and Clubcard points."

Tesco pioneered online grocery shopping in the UK in 2000 and currently sees total annual online sales of £7.5 billion. More than 1.2 million customers shop online with the supermarket every week, supported by its main home delivery service, which covers over 99% of the country.
