Work is nearing completion on a 2,000-capacity entertainment venue set to open later this month in Wigan. Stack Wigan will be housed in the former Debenhams store in the Grand Arcade shopping centre, a building that closed in May 2021.
Six street food kitchens and five bars planned
The venue will feature six street food kitchens, five bars and a coffee shop, alongside a large stage and several giant screens. Access will be available from the Grand Arcade, a main entrance under an outdoor balcony, and from the nearby indoor car park.
The upper level will include a pool table area and an outdoor terrace. Big screens will show major sporting matches, while the live stage will host music, performances and events.
Final food line-up revealed
Spanning 48,000 sq ft, Stack has announced its final street food line-up, with outlets housed in shipping-container-style units. The six confirmed food traders are Pattersons, Acropolis, ZZA Pizzeria, Tikka Bros, Smash House and Hello Oriental, offering everything from fried chicken and Greek gyros to stonebaked pizza, Indian street food, smash burgers and pan-Asian favourites. Tikka Bros is a homegrown Wigan name, having opened its first outlet in the town centre before expanding to Southport Market.
The new complex is expected to create around 140 jobs, giving Wigan a new day-to-night venue. Stack said the opening will bring 'one of the town centre's biggest units back to life'.
Bringing the former Debenhams back to life
Gemma Dishman, director of strategy and development at Stack, said: "Independent street food is a big part of what makes STACK special, and we've brought together a strong mix of local talent and well-established food operators for Wigan.
"Each brings something different to the line-up, giving customers plenty of choice and the opportunity to discover new flavours alongside their favourites.
"Bringing the former Debenhams back to life is about more than filling an empty building. We're creating a place where people can come together for food, live entertainment and shared experiences, giving them more reasons to spend time in Wigan town centre. We're looking forward to welcoming everyone this November."
