Quality Bites, a West Midlands halal frozen food supplier stocked in more than 1,000 independent supermarkets across the UK, has ceased trading and entered liquidation. The company was voluntarily wound up on October 7, according to The Gazette.
Company background and products
The frozen food enterprise was established in May 2013 and operated as a halal frozen food brand, offering a range of products including samosas, kebabs, and crispy chicken. The West Midlands-based company described itself as "one of the leading manufacturers of ethnic foods in the UK".
Quality Bites collaborated with retailers, wholesalers, and distributors throughout the country, delivering products to over 1,000 independent supermarkets and grocery shops, as reported by the Herald.
Liquidation process
Deviesh Raikundalia of Hall Chadwick (UK) Limited has been appointed as liquidator, according to the Express. The resolutions for winding-up and notices to creditors were published by The Gazette on October 22.
Wider business context
The closure comes during a challenging year for British businesses. Popular high street brands such as Claire's and Quiz have been compelled to shut all their remaining outlets after collapsing into administration this year.
Meanwhile, hospitality giant Whitbread, which operates Premier Inn, axed all its standalone branded restaurants across the UK last month, including Brewers Fayre and Beefeater. On Monday, September 7, all 89 Brewers Fayre restaurants closed for good, and all 106 Beefeater restaurants followed days later.
However, more than 100 of the sites have now been rescued and will be rebranded after hospitality firms Queensway Inn and Common Table Group acquired a combined total of 110 former Whitbread venues in October.
