Lidl's £10 fleece jacket rivals £98 Next version

Lidl is adding a new item to its fashion range that could rival a pricier alternative sold at Next. The Men's Black Thermal Fleece Jacket will be available in stores only for £9.99 from Thursday, October 15, while stocks last.

The supermarket, which has over 1,000 stores nationwide, is known for its 'Middle of Lidl Aisle' deals on homeware, garden accessories, seasonal items and fashion. The jacket is made from 100 per cent polyester fleece and is designed to help retain warmth.

Product features and design

The jacket has a versatile black design with orange accents, making it easy to pair with outdoor outfits. Features include a soft and cosy fleece, full zip with chin guard, high collar, side pockets, anti-pilling finish, embroidered detail on the chest, and sizes M-XL. It contains 100% GRS*-certified recycled polyester.

Shoppers hoping to find out more are urged to visit the Lidl website. Anyone hoping for home delivery will be disappointed, so to avoid a wasted trip on launch day, make sure to double check stock levels at your local branch via the online store finder.

Comparison with Next's offering

It could be considered a budget alternative to a premium piece available at a rival retailer. Next, for instance, is stocking the Reiss Navy Meros McLaren Racing Fleece Half-Zip for £98 - nearly 10-times the price of Lidl's offering. While it's not marketed as a jacket, it boasts an almost identical look but with the iconic McLaren branding.

Describing the product, Next said: "The Navy Meros top is crafted from soft fleece with McLaren Racing and Reiss embroidery on the chest and additional branding to the back. The half-zip style is finished with a motorsport sleeve badge."

A half-zip jumper is a versatile wardrobe staple that helps keep you warm while allowing you to adjust your temperature throughout the day. The zip can be opened for extra ventilation when you're feeling warm or pulled up to help trap heat when the temperature drops.

Delivery options

One of the biggest differences between the two is that customers can order the half-zip for home delivery. Next offers next-day home delivery for £4.95 per order when placed before 11pm, subject to availability. Its Nextunlimited annual pass costs £24.50 and includes unlimited home and ParcelShop deliveries, while oversized furniture deliveries incur a £30 fee.
