Lidl has confirmed it will offer a complete Christmas dinner, including trimmings, for £1.39 per person, with seasonal vegetables priced at just 9p each. The German discounter has promised it will "never be beaten on price" as it launches its festive value campaign ahead of the Christmas season.
The affordable dinner will be available in stores nationwide from December 19 until Christmas Eve, giving shoppers time to plan their festive menu. The offer includes a Birchwood British Small Turkey (3kg) at £8.85, along with reduced prices on potatoes, sprouts, carrots, parsnips, stuffing mix, gravy granules and Yorkshire puddings.
Full Christmas Dinner Price Breakdown
Lidl has confirmed that the cost of seasonal trimmings will be reduced to a market-leading 9p. This means shoppers can buy Sprouts (500g), Potatoes (2kg), Carrots (1kg) and Parsnips (500g) for just pennies each. Yorkshire Puddings (15 pack) will cost 46p, while gravy granules (300g) are priced at 99p.
The most expensive part of the dinner will be the centrepiece. The supermarket's Birchwood British Small Turkey (3kg) will come in at £8.85, and the Classic Sage and Onion Stuffing Mix (170g) will cost 45p. Overall, a full festive roast from Lidl will cost just £1.39 per person, equating to £11.11 for a family of eight.
Commitment to British Farming
The discounter also confirmed it is backing British farming this Christmas by reaffirming its commitment to quality, fairness and long-term partnerships with British suppliers. The "unbeatable prices" on fresh produce are fully-funded by Lidl, meaning there is no change to the price paid to producers throughout the season.
Richard Bourns, Lidl GB Chief Commercial Officer, said: "With household budgets remaining under pressure, we’re on a mission to deliver unbeatable festive value to our shoppers this Christmas. By pricing a complete Christmas dinner at less than £1.40 per head, we’re giving reassurance from the very start of the season that we won’t be beaten on price, and we won’t compromise on quality."
Bourns added: "We’ve already invested £400 million in lowering prices this year, and we aren’t stopping there. Between additional price cuts and a further £75 million in Lidl Plus savings in the run up to Christmas, we’re making sure British families get the value they deserve. No guesswork, no festive price shock - just unbeatable value, locked in."
Context of Grocery Inflation
The announcement comes as UK households brace for a busy festive season, with Worldpanel research highlighting grocery inflation has accelerated to 2.5 percent over the four weeks to October 4. In previous years, many major supermarkets have engaged in what has been dubbed a 'Christmas Price War', slashing the cost of festive essentials such as trimmings and drinks.
