Lidl will release new footwear this weekend that bears a striking resemblance to premium options available at other retailers. The supermarket, known for its Middle of Lidl aisle, will launch the ESMARA Men's Felt Clogs across all 1,000+ stores on Sunday, November 1 for £6.99 while stocks last.
Shoppers can choose between anthracite, navy, grey and navy designs for in-store collection only. To check stock levels at a local store, customers can enter their postcode into the online store finder.
Clog features and design
Clogs are distinctive shoes known for their thick, rigid soles and slip-on design, traditionally worn during long work shifts or casual everyday outings. They offer durable arch support and breathable comfort.
The ESMARA clogs feature high wool content for extra warmth, a soft felt insole, and an anatomically shaped footbed. Sizes range from 7.5 to 11.5, with the upper, lining and insole made from textile and the sole from EVA.
Comparison with pricier alternatives
The Lidl clogs could be seen as a bargain alternative to a pricier pair at Zalando. The Birkenstock Amsterdam Felt currently retails for £81, down from £89.99 while stocks last. One notable difference is that customers can have the Zalando clogs delivered to their front doors via home delivery.
Describing the product, Zalando said: "Shoe tip: Round, Heel type: Flat, Fastening: Slip on, Pattern: Plain." It is available in sizes 2.5 to 7.5.
For an even more expensive option, OFFICE has the Birkenstock Amsterdam Wrapped Clogs at £125 - nearly 18 times more expensive than its supermarket counterpart. Aesthetically there are bigger differences, with each clog boasting a dark, charcoal-like colour and a light coloured sole hidden from sight.
