Piano: Hebburn's Dougie's Tavern Transformed into Chic Restaurant
Hebburn's Dougie's Tavern Reborn as Piano Restaurant and Lounge

Hebburn locals are seeing one of the area's best-known buildings in a new light this week, as the premises that once housed Dougie's Tavern pub have been completely transformed. The result is chic new restaurant and lounge Piano, which is already receiving rave reviews just days after opening.

From Pub to Restaurant

At a time when many local businesses across the North East are sadly shutting down, new life has been breathed into this venue, located away from the bright lights of Newcastle city centre. After several teasers on social media helped build curiosity and excitement, Piano welcomed its first customers earlier this week.

Diners have praised the menu, which offers food for all tastes, and have been blown away by the building's renovation, which has the 'wow' factor.

Diners Impressed by Transformation

Deborah Taylor-Smith, one of the restaurant's managers and front of house team, told ChronicleLive: "Honestly, people can't believe it. As soon as they walk in, they're like 'oh my god! What a difference.'"

"It looks amazing and, with the way it's decorated, when I'm at work I feel as if I could be on holiday in Italy and not in Hebburn, its so, so nice."

Menu and Opening Hours

While synonymous with music, 'piano' is the Italian for soft, and the aim is for the restaurant to have a relaxed atmosphere where people can take time out, with the menu the real star. Alongside a selection of pizzas and pasta, there is a huge tomahawk steak, the already popular surf 'n' turf, and a range of chicken and fish dishes. There is also an option to pop into the bar for a cocktail.

Piano is open seven days a week on Blackett Street, Hebburn, from 12-10pm Monday-Saturday and 12-8pm on Sundays, which will include serving a hearty roast. The Chronicle paid a visit on Friday afternoon to see inside the venue and sample the food on offer.
