Gooey, the viral bakery known for its cookies and doughnuts, has closed its only Liverpool store on Bold Street. The venue has been removed from the brand's social media and website, and Google lists it as permanently closed.
From viral opening to closure
The Manchester-based brand opened its Liverpool kiosk next to Albert's Schloss in December 2023. At the time, it attracted queues down Bold Street, with customers eager to try bakes that had been endorsed by American pop singer Lizzo.
Gooey's unique selling point was that it closed once it ran out of the cookies and doughnuts on display. Its website stated it was open from 12am to 6pm or "earlier if sold out".
Brand continues in Manchester
Today, Gooey has over 120,000 social media followers and operates from two sites in Manchester, including Oxford Road and High Street Cafe.
At the time of its Liverpool opening, Gooey thanked fans for their support and hinted at a potential café expansion. The team said: "Introducing Bold Street, Liverpool. Our New Kiosk."
"This one has been a long time coming. A little Christmas gift for everyone who’s been driving from Liverpool to Manchester over the past few years for their Gooey fix."
"We’re located right next to Albert’s Schloss and directly across the road from the side entrance of Liverpool Central Station on Bold Street. We will be open seven days a week 11am to 6pm and we currently offer cookies, donuts and buns for takeaway."
