Adriano's Fortuna, a beloved Italian restaurant in Gosforth on the outskirts of Newcastle, has permanently closed its doors. The establishment, which had been a fixture on the High Street for many years, has already been taken over by the team behind another recently closed restaurant in the area.
End of an Era for Fortuna
Fortuna was known as Gosforth's 'original Italian restaurant' and had been a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. Despite surviving the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic by adapting to social distancing measures, the restaurant ultimately shut down earlier this year. Its Facebook page was updated with the words 'NOW CLOSED', and no further explanation was provided at the time.
Fortunately for Italian food enthusiasts, the closure does not mean the end of Italian dining at that location. The team from Cassia, which closed its doors at the Silverlink in North Tyneside at the end of March, has taken over the premises.
Cassia's Move to Gosforth
Cassia announced its departure from the Silverlink with a heartfelt Facebook post expressing gratitude to staff and customers. The post read: "We are so sad to announce that unfortunately after an amazing 4 years here at Cassia our doors will be closing at the end of March. We would like to say thank you to our team for their passion and dedication. To all of our customers who have joined us over the years, thank you for your support, loyalty, and sharing your moments with us, bringing life into the restaurant. Cassia would not have been possible without you all."
The closure disappointed many, but the team quickly teased a new venture. A video on their Facebook page hinted at the new location, which followers identified as the former Fortuna on the High Street. The announcement generated significant excitement, with one regular commenting: "Best news I've seen all day ... can't wait to get my dinners again." Another added: "Yes, hopefully open soon, can't wait to see you open again."
Preparations Underway
Days later, Cassia updated followers, stating that 'the finishing touches' were being made to their new home in Gosforth. They also revealed that some staff would temporarily work at Sambuca in Boldon, ensuring continuity of service. The post assured customers: "You'll still be greeted by the same friendly faces, warm hospitality, and passion for great food while we prepare to open our doors in Gosforth."
The new restaurant promises to bring the same quality and atmosphere that made Cassia a favorite, now in a new location. Fans eagerly await the official opening date.
