A luxury car previously owned by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is being sold by a dealership in Doncaster for almost half its retail price. The Bentley was valued at £220,000 when it was acquired by the former Duke of York in 2021, and is now on offer for £124,975.
Royal history and specification
The vehicle, which once bore Andrew's personalised 'Duke of York' licence plates, has clocked up just 7,000 miles. It was driven by the disgraced royal to his father Prince Philip's funeral in 2021, and the following year to the christening of his granddaughter, Princess Beatrice's daughter Sienna Mapelli Mozzi.
The Bentley Flying Spur was reportedly bought brand new six years ago, before Andrew sprayed over its original blue with Barnato racing green and added number plates bearing 'DOY', in reference to the royal title he held at the time. It is understood the car was sold to a specialist Bentley dealership between 2024 and 2025. It is unclear what happened to the personalised number plate, but it is no longer listed on the DVLA website.
Dealership listing and owner's comments
An online listing by Doncaster-based Portland Autos, a family-run firm established in 1983, describes the Bentley Flying Spur as an 'Ex Royal Family Car!' alongside the detailed specification of the luxury vehicle. The 'traditionally-specified Bentley' is described as coming with 'a fantastic options list' including 22in polished alloy wheels, LED welcome lamps and 'Massage and Ventilated front and rear seats'. It also has a cream leather and walnut interior, sunroof and Breitling clock.
The firm's owner Clive Watson told The Times of the vehicle: “We didn’t buy the car from the royal household directly, it came through a third party. But the fact that it was owned by a royal is likely to help sell it as it is both something of interest about the car and it means it will have been incredibly well cared for. The Bentley is beautiful, in flawless condition and has just 7,000 miles on it.”
Watson added that he had sold many vehicles previously owned by the royals, as he said: “The royal households generally take very good care of the cars and are easy to deal with. Much better than footballers anyway.”
Andrew's legal challenges
Andrew has previously been seen driving various vehicles with the 'DOY' licence plates, with a black Land Rover Defender bearing the plates spotted last November, after he was stripped of his royal titles. The car listing comes after Andrew launched legal action against both Thames Valley Police and the Central Criminal Court, arguing that the search warrants that led to his arrest were not legal.
The disgraced royal is challenging whether the police force acted lawfully over the searches relating to his dramatic arrest in February. On his 66th birthday, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office following allegations he shared sensitive information with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein during his time as the UK's trade envoy. In the days and weeks after the arrest, which saw Andrew held for 12 hours in a Norfolk police station before being released under investigation, police conducted searches on residences in Sandringham and Berkshire to gather evidence and follow lines of enquiry. Now, Andrew's bid to have the search warrants quashed will be heard at a private High Court hearing on Thursday.
