Altrincham Irish Deli to Close for Major New Venue Transformation
Altrincham Irish Deli Closes for Major New Venue

The Irish Deli in Altrincham, a popular spot for Irish products and homemade food, will close its doors for good on Saturday, June 27, as owners prepare to transform the space into a new day-to-night venue. All stock is currently being sold with a 40% discount until the final day.

What Happened

Since opening in September 2024, The Irish Deli has operated next to Kennedy’s pub on Greenwood Street, offering Irish specialties such as fresh cheese, meat, White Pudding, Tayto crisps, and Barry’s Tea. The shop, located in the former Clock Tower pub opposite Altrincham Market, gained a reputation for its hot chicken rolls and chocolate Guinness cheesecake, which often sold out during lunch rushes.

The deli’s owners, who also run the Kennedy Irish bars in Altrincham and Didsbury—the latter recently recognized with a major award—announced the closure via Instagram. They stated: “After an incredible journey, we’ve made the decision to pause The Irish Deli as we work behind the scenes on something completely new for Altrincham. Over the past months we’ve listened carefully to your feedback, watched how the space is being used, and thought hard about what the local community really wants. The people spoke, and we listened.”

Details of the Transformation

The space will be redeveloped into a new day-to-night concept, described by the owners as “something big” for the area. The Instagram post elaborated: “We’re now transforming the space into an exciting new day-to-night concept that will take the venue in a whole new direction. Think great coffee, casual daytime catch-ups, food and socialising by day, evolving into a vibrant destination to meet, eat, drink and enjoy by night.” Specific details about the new venue have not yet been revealed.

Impact on the Community

The closure has elicited mixed reactions from locals. One customer commented: “No more Irish goodies for me... Boooo.” Another expressed support: “Wishing you all the success in what’s to come!!! I'm sure it will offer the local community a totally vibrant, welcoming hub for all.” The deli has been one of the few places in Greater Manchester to stock certain Irish products, making it a cherished spot for the Irish community.

The owners concluded: “We’re incredibly proud of everything The Irish Deli has been and the support you’ve shown us since day one. But we’re even more excited about what’s coming next. We can’t reveal too much just yet, but trust us when we say: Something BIG is coming to Altrincham.”
