Alison Hammond has partnered with McCain to launch CHIP, a pop-up restaurant in London Fields entirely dedicated to chips, where her signature dish, the National Treasure, is available to try for free.
The four-day event runs from November 5 to November 8 at 2 Westgate Street in London Fields, open from 11.30am to 7pm. It features a menu of toppings inspired by flavour trends from the 90s to now, including truffle oil, pumpkin spice, balsamic glaze, pickle vinegar, matcha and gochujang.
The National Treasure and other signature serves
Hammond's National Treasure is described as warm, larger-than-life and completely irresistible, dedicated to the queen of daytime TV. It features garlic butter, hot honey and Everything Bagel seasoning.
Other menu items include Pomme de Terre, a rich, earthy take on 90s-inspired flavours combining truffle oil, porcini mushroom dust and rosemary sea salt. Fall Fries is described as a 'millennial autumn dream', combining pumpkin spice, salted caramel and a cinnamon-sugar swirl. The Po-TEA-to is a Japanese-inspired fusion of matcha, miso and yuzu, while Chip-kle pairs pickle vinegar with garlic butter and Himalayan pink salt.
What the team says
Hammond said: "Honestly, is there anything better than a good chip? I absolutely love them and they’re always a winner in our home." She added: "Now, I might not be winning any awards for my cooking, but when it comes to serving up a cracking portion of chips, I know what I'm doing. I'm so excited to be teaming up with McCain to create The National Treasure. We're putting chips centre stage and celebrating all the delicious ways you can enjoy them."
Laura Koscik, Marketing Director at McCain, said: "Chips have been a constant on our plates through decades of changing food culture. At CHIP, we're putting this much-loved icon centre stage and inviting people to rediscover their love of chips." She added: "Whether that means trying a cult flavour, returning to a nostalgic favourite or creating a combination that's entirely their own. As the maker of one in four chips worldwide, we're celebrating the food people already love while giving it a fresh role in modern food culture."
All serves at CHIP are free to attendees during the pop-up's four-day run.
