Aldi confirms major change to opening hours

Aldi has confirmed its opening hours for the upcoming August bank holiday, with stores in England and Wales closing earlier than usual. On bank holiday Monday, August 31, these stores will operate from 8am until 8pm, while locations in Scotland and Northern Ireland will follow their standard schedules. Since opening times can differ by branch, customers are advised to check the Aldi website for their local store’s hours before heading out.

Quietest times to shop

Aldi has also shared a tip for shoppers hoping to avoid the busiest periods. Data from last year’s August bank holiday weekend shows that 8am to 9am and 7pm to 8pm were the quietest times to visit, according to the supermarket.

Rachel Geary, Communications Director at Aldi UK, said: “Whether shoppers are stocking up for a barbecue, getting together with family and friends or picking up some last-minute essentials, we want to make their bank holiday shop as easy as possible.”

Price cuts and early closing trial

Geary added: “For anyone looking to beat the bank holiday rush, heading to stores first thing in the morning or later in the evening is likely to mean a quieter shop.”

Aldi recently reduced the price of 330 products, including fresh and frozen food, cupboard staples and household essentials. The cuts are backed by a £100million investment and mean Aldi has now lowered prices on more than 1,000 products this year, the supermarket said.

Earlier this summer, Aldi also announced it is trialling closing select UK stores an hour early at 9pm instead of 10pm, Monday through Saturday.

Commitment to low prices

An Aldi spokesperson said: “As the UK’s cheapest supermarket, our commitment to customers is that they will always pay the lowest possible prices every time they shop with us.”

The spokesperson added: “Our efficient business model means that we are always looking for new ways to pass on even greater savings to Aldi shoppers.”
