Aldi has announced its opening hours for the upcoming August Bank Holiday, allowing shoppers to plan their long weekend shopping. On Bank Holiday Monday, August 31, 2026, stores in England and Wales will be open from 8am to 8pm, while stores in Scotland and Northern Ireland will operate their usual hours. Since opening times can vary by location, customers are encouraged to check the Aldi website for their local store’s hours before travelling.
Advice for a Quieter Shop
Rachel Geary, communications director at Aldi UK, said: “Whether shoppers are stocking up for a barbecue, getting together with family and friends or picking up some last-minute essentials, we want to make their Bank Holiday shop as easy as possible.” She added: “Head to stores first thing in the morning or later in the evening is likely to mean a quieter shop.”
Data from last year’s August Bank Holiday weekend shows that 8am to 9am and 7pm to 8pm were the quietest times to shop.
Price Cuts and Value Recognition
Shoppers can also save on their Bank Holiday shop after Aldi recently cut the price of 330 products, including fresh and frozen food, cupboard staples and household essentials. The reductions are backed by a £100 million investment, meaning Aldi has now cut prices on more than 1,000 products this year.
The announcement comes as the company celebrates being named the UK’s cheapest supermarket for the ninth month in a row. New analysis from consumer champion Which? named Aldi as the UK’s cheapest supermarket for July 2026, based on a basket of 93 popular grocery items.
Even after loyalty discounts were applied, shoppers would still have paid up to £30.40 less at Aldi than at Tesco (priced £188.45) and £29.81 less than Sainsbury’s (priced £187.86). Morrisons was £37.58 steeper (priced at £195.63), while Waitrose was £68.90 more than Aldi for the same basket at £226.95.
Award-Winning Quality at Low Prices
Aldi was also recently named Which?’s ‘Best Value Brand of the Year’, recognised for consistently delivering strong quality at low prices. Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “We are delighted to be crowned the UK’s cheapest supermarket for the ninth month in a row, a run dating back to November 2025. The school summer holidays, while lots of fun, can also be a time when many households feel the financial pinch.”
“Our customers can shop with confidence throughout the summer, knowing they’re getting award-winning quality without the hefty price tag, and putting those savings towards more of the moments that matter.”
