Aldi has released its 2026 Christmas advert, and viewers are already praising it as "better than John Lewis" following its online debut.
The supermarket shared the festive commercial across its social media and YouTube channels ahead of its television premiere at 8pm on Thursday evening (November 5). The release follows a teaser video published earlier this week, which showed popular characters Kevin the Carrot and Chantenay putting up 'LOST' posters for Cauli Dog.
Heartwarming Search for Cauli Dog
The new advert follows Kevin and Chantenay as they set out to find Cauli Dog, tracking a trail of tiny paw prints in the snow. In the finale, Chantenay's Christmas wish comes true and Cauli Dog is found safe, with Chantenay declaring: "Cauli, I love you."
The video has already landed well with fans, with some on social media describing it as "super cute" and "adorable." One viewer called it the "best xmas advert," adding it is "better than" others.
Comparison to John Lewis
Some viewers have suggested the supermarket's festive advert is "better than John Lewis," whose ad is highly anticipated each year. Commenting on Instagram, one viewer wrote: "Better than John Lewis any day." Another commented: "Brilliant & far exceeds @johnlewis Christmas ad."
The praise comes after John Lewis' Christmas advert received mixed responses following its launch earlier this week. The video, featuring Dame Kristin Scott Thomas, drew criticism on the parenting website Mumsnet, with members appearing irritated at the advert's depiction of "rude" children.
Mixed Reactions to John Lewis
One member commented: "It didn’t make me feel Christmassy and to be honest if they were my kids they wouldn’t be getting any presents they were so rude." Another added: "Basically the grandchildren are absolute brats, they completely disrespect their grandmother and their mother just shrugs her shoulders and blames grandma."
However, the John Lewis ad received positive reactions from analysts Kantar, which said the ad reminded consumers of the "joy" of the festive season.
