Drivers in Wolverhampton pay on average £2,362.60 to repair a 2020 Ford Fiesta 1.0L, the lowest in the UK, according to a study by One Sure Insurance. This is £665 less than Plymouth, the most expensive city at £3,027.29.
Regional price differences
The analysis looked at common repairs like clutch replacements, brake repairs, battery replacements and suspension work. Dudley was the second cheapest at £2,398.91, followed by Birmingham at £2,413.54. At the other end, Ipswich had average bills of £2,844.31 and Bristol £2,790.96.
Postcode lottery for motorists
A spokesperson for One Sure Insurance said: "Two drivers of the same vehicle could end up paying very different prices purely because of where they live. With the cost of motoring continuing to rise, many drivers are already feeling the financial pressure from fuel, insurance and everyday living costs."
The data showed a huge gap in individual repair costs. For example, a clutch replacement in Plymouth costs £446.05 on average, while in Wolverhampton it is just £236.45.
Advice for drivers
Motorists are urged to compare repair quotes to find the best deal. One Sure Insurance added: "What this research highlights is that comparing repair quotes can make a significant difference. Motorists should always shop around where possible, rather than assuming every garage in their area will charge similar prices."
