Vacant Ayr diner could become two new restaurants

A planning application has been lodged to subdivide the vacant Central Park American Diner on Boswell Park in Ayr, potentially creating two new restaurants in the town centre.

The proposal, submitted by applicant Abdul Rehman Rana from Falkirk, with Birmingham-based NASA Design Studio Ltd acting as agent, seeks permission to divide the ground and upper floor of the premises into two independently occupied food and drink outlets.

Design and Access Details

A supporting statement explains that the internal division will create two independently accessed Class 3 restaurant units. Both existing entrances will be retained, with one unit accessed from the existing Boswell Park entrance and the other from the existing Arthur Street entrance.

The statement adds: "The design intention is to provide a functional relationship between customer seating, kitchens, sanitary accommodation and circulation within each unit."

Preserving the Conservation Area

According to the supporting statement, the proposal seeks to retain active restaurant use and improve the frontage while preserving the conservation area's character and appearance. A Noise Impact Assessment (NIA) is also included as part of the application.

The former Boswells Bar was earmarked for transformation into 'Central Park' in 2022, offering classic stateside cuisine.

Decision Expected in December

The proposals are listed as 'pending consideration' on South Ayrshire Council's online planning portal, with a decision expected in December.
