Stockport tops Greater Manchester's fastest-selling property hotspots
Stockport tops Greater Manchester's fastest-selling property hotspots

Homes in Stockport are selling faster than anywhere else in Greater Manchester, taking an average of 30 days to find a buyer, according to new research from property website Zoopla. The regional average is 36 days, while the national average stands at 42 days.

Regional divide in selling times

The data reveals a divide between the ten council areas in the county. In northern areas like Wigan and Bolton, homes are taking four or five days longer to sell than a year ago, while more southern councils like Stockport and Trafford are speeding up by a week or more.

Core central areas including Manchester and Salford have remained relatively stable, with time to sell only increasing by a day each year-on-year, reflecting consistent demand for properties across those council areas.

Expert advice for sellers

Richard Donnell, Executive Director at Zoopla, said: "While the average time to sell a home across Greater Manchester has remained stable at 36 days, this stability is masking a divide between the ten council areas in the county."

He added: "My advice to sellers across Greater Manchester is similar to those nationally - no matter where you are, first speak to a local agent who knows your area inside-out, as pricing your home correctly from day one sets you in a good position to sell quickly. This is still the biggest factor within a seller's control, no matter how the wider local and national markets are performing."

Zoopla's "time to sell" research monitored the period from properties being first listed on the market to estate agents confirming sales agreed. Certain local authorities were omitted from the research owing to insufficient sample sizes.
