Scottish 'spaceship' Airbnb goes on sale for £650,000
Scottish 'spaceship' Airbnb on sale for £650,000

A spacecraft-like Airbnb on Scotland's remote Morvern Peninsula has been put on the market alongside its futuristic neighbours, with the portfolio listed for offers over £650,000.

AirShip 002, one of the UK's most sought-after holiday lets, is being sold as part of the Druim Na Cracaig collection near Drimnin, Oban. The asking price has been reduced by £100,000 after the group was initially marketed for offers over £750,000.

A unique stay with top ratings

The silver, aluminium-clad pod is known for its curved body, portholes and large “dragonfly” windows overlooking the Sound of Mull. It holds an average rating of 4.94 out of five from more than 500 Airbnb reviews and ranks among the platform's top 10% of homes.

AirShip 002 was designed by architect Roderick James and interior designer Amanda Markham as an experiment in compact aluminium construction. Its interior includes a double bed, kitchenette, living area, shower room and wood-burning stove.

Three cabins and a home included

Also included in the sale are two more unusual holiday lets, The PilotHouse and The Captain's Cabin, plus a two-bedroom owner's or housekeeper's home known as The Old Chapel. The properties sit on an elevated plot of more than four acres with views towards Tobermory, the Ardnamurchan Peninsula and the surrounding mountains.

The PilotHouse is an elliptical two-storey building with its living room raised above the ground to capture sea views. Downstairs there is a bedroom, study and shower room, while an external balcony looks towards Tobermory. The Captain's Cabin draws inspiration from life at sea, with a saloon, galley kitchen, double bedroom and a private rooftop “deck”, along with underfloor heating, triple glazing and renewable electricity.

Proven business performance

The Old Chapel offers a more conventional base, with two bedrooms, a kitchen, living room and conservatory. Parking, workshops, storage buildings and the established holiday-letting operation are also part of the sale.

Savills says the business has recorded a consistent annual turnover of around £100,000 during each of the past four years. The cabins have attracted guests from across the world and appeared on television programmes including Scotland's Greatest Escape and Alan Cumming's Paradise Homes.

Selling agent Iona Conn said: “Few hospitality businesses combine such imaginative architecture, proven commercial success and an utterly captivating setting. AirShip 002, The PilotHouse and The Captain's Cabin have become destinations in their own right, attracting visitors from across the globe to experience this remarkable corner of the west coast.”

The freehold collection is listed with Savills for offers over £650,000.
