A unit on Poulton industrial estate, currently used as a rock factory, could become a car sales showroom under new plans.
Countrywide Adventures Ltd, an established used-car sales business, currently stores vehicles at the yard next to Unit 2 Bracewell Avenue, Poulton Le Fylde. The availability of the adjoining unit, occupied by McAdams Rock Confectionery, now offers a chance to expand with a dedicated indoor showroom and improved customer facilities.
McAdams relocation to Blackpool
McAdams is relocating to new premises in central Blackpool, with the move expected to be completed in January. A planning application has been lodged with Wyre Council for a change of use from rock factory to car sales showroom, including office space and car storage on the yard.
A Planning Statement by Keystone Design Associates Ltd, on behalf of the applicants, says: "The availability of the adjoining unit provides an opportunity for the business to expand its operations by providing a dedicated indoor showroom and improved customer facilities."
Expansion plans and site details
The statement adds: "The expansion would allow the business to operate more effectively while making use of an existing commercial building which would otherwise be empty."
It notes the building was previously occupied by a rock manufacturing business, which has now vacated the premises. The proposal is described as "a logical expansion of an existing business rather than introducing an unrelated commercial activity."
The site extends to 1746sq m, providing space for the indoor showroom, office accommodation, customer reception, external vehicle display and storage, plus customer and staff parking.
Planning statement conclusion
The statement concludes: "The proposed change of use represents an appropriate and sustainable reuse of an existing commercial unit within an established industrial and employment area."
It adds: "The proposal represents a logical expansion of an established local business and the beneficial reuse of a vacant commercial unit. It will contribute to the continued economic use of the Poulton Industrial Estate while providing an appropriate location for a modern vehicle sales business."
