Powerball Comes to the UK
The National Lottery is launching Powerball in the UK this week, giving British players the opportunity to compete for massive jackpots alongside their US counterparts. The opening prize is estimated at $544 million (£311 million), with a cash value of $241.6 million (£180 million).
How to Play
Players select five white numbers from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball number from 1 to 26. To win the jackpot, all six numbers must match. The cost is £4 per line. Tickets go on sale from 5am Tuesday, with the first draw on Thursday.
If no one wins the jackpot, it rolls over and grows. Winners can choose between an annuity paid over 29 years or a lump-sum payment. The game offers uncapped jackpots starting at £12 million.
UK-Specific Feature
Unlike the US version, the UK game includes an extra prize tier: matching two main numbers wins a fixed £8. This is exclusive to British players.
Draw Schedule and Odds
Draws take place at 4am on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from the Powerball studio in Florida. Tickets can be bought online or in stores until 11.55pm the night before. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292 million, according to the operator.
