A lucky ticketholder in France has claimed the record-breaking €157 million EuroMillions jackpot, drawn on Tuesday. The winning numbers were 24, 31, 34, 41, and 43, with Lucky Stars 06 and 08.
The jackpot had reached its cap of €250 million, estimated at £210 million, making it the largest EuroMillions prize ever won. One British player came agonisingly close, missing only one Lucky Star and winning £182,967.60 instead.
Winners have 180 days from the draw date to claim their prize. Recent winners include a family from Cork, Ireland, who won £216 million and plan to stay in their home city, with no extravagant spending plans beyond possibly a Rolex.
However, not all big winners have fairy-tale endings. Some have faced assassination, abduction, substance abuse, or financial trouble, leading to talk of a 'lottery curse'.
