Aldi has confirmed that its new supermarket in Norton, North Yorkshire, is on track to open in Autumn 2026, part of a broader £370 million investment across 16 new UK locations. Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said construction on Commercial Street is “progressing well.”
£370 Million Investment Drives Aldi’s UK Growth
The Germany-based discounter, which already operates more than 1,080 stores in the UK, is pushing ahead with ambitious expansion plans. Neale stated: “At Aldi, we’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we continue to invest in expanding our store network across the UK. Our £370 million investment in new stores this year will help us bring Aldi’s unbeatable value to even more communities, supporting local economies through our industry-leading pay for colleagues.”
Norton Store Opening Timeline
According to The York Press, Neale added: “We are delighted that the construction of its new food store on Commercial Street in Norton is progressing well. We anticipate that the store will be opening during Autumn 2026.” The Norton store is one of 16 new sites planned as part of this year’s investment wave.
Other Locations in the Expansion
Other new Aldi stores set to open in the coming months include Watford in Hertfordshire, Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester, Balsall Common in the West Midlands, Newport on the Isle of Wight, and Port Talbot in south Wales.
Long-Term Ambition: 1,500 Stores
The current expansion is part of Aldi’s long-term goal to reach 1,500 stores across the UK. In January, the retailer announced it hoped to open around 40 new stores in 2026, aligning with its growth strategy. The latest openings follow the debut of a store in Salford Quays last month, underscoring Aldi’s sustained investment in its UK estate.
