As autumn temperatures drop and damp weather sets in, drying clothes indoors can become a frustratingly slow process. Without a tumble dryer or heated airer, households often face days of damp laundry cluttering their homes. However, experts have shared a simple towel hack that can significantly reduce drying times without increasing energy bills.
According to laundry experts, wrapping wet clothing in a dry towel helps absorb excess water before hanging. Lifestyle Clotheslines recommends the 'towel roll method': roll each damp garment tightly inside a dry towel, twist both ends to squeeze out moisture, and insert paper towels into creases to soak up any remaining droplets. This technique can dramatically speed up drying while saving time and effort.
Martin Seeley, sleep specialist and CEO of MattressNextDay, confirms the method works well for bed linen. He advises washing sheets first thing in the morning to take advantage of warmer daytime temperatures and natural airflow. Before hanging, shake the sheets to separate fibres, then lay them flat on a dry towel, roll tightly, and press to absorb excess moisture before hanging to finish drying.
These simple hacks can cut indoor drying times dramatically, making it easier to keep laundry fresh without relying on expensive heating or tumble dryers.
