Construction of a major new care home in County Durham is moving into its final stages. St Mary's Care Homes confirms that Bowburn Manor Care Home will support 85 jobs at full capacity, and remains on track to start welcoming new residents in early winter 2026.
Employment boost for the region
The care home will help bring long-term employment opportunities to the area, with around 85 jobs created across care, hospitality, wellbeing and support roles. Recruitment is planned to begin later this year.
The North East has been largely exempt from the national trend of rising unemployment, with sharp declines noted earlier in the year. However, the news of a further 85 jobs on offer at the care home will be welcomed as more money comes to the North East.
Facilities and design
The 73-bed home will provide residential, dementia and respite care for families across County Durham and the wider North East region. The home also marks one of St Mary's Care Homes' most sustainable developments to date, designed around enhanced thermal performance, high-efficiency systems and integrated renewable energy sources.
The care home, which will provide 38,077 square feet of accommodation, will feature en-suite bedrooms across three floors, along with a range of comfortably furnished communal lounges where residents can relax and socialise. Other facilities will include an on-site café and hair salon, dedicated activity spaces, a sports room, landscaped gardens, and a varied programme of resident-led activities and events.
