The former Irish Deli on Greenwood Street in Altrincham has been transformed into two new food concepts under one roof: Flakey and Paddy's. The Irish Deli closed in June after two years, with owners citing a new concept that 'thought hard about what the local community really wants'.
Flakey: Stuffed Croissants and Coffee
Flakey began eight months ago in Ancoats General Store, founded by couple Georgia Copp-Barton and Daniel Mullen. It offers 'big and bold' croissants with lavish flavours, priced from £6.50 to £8.50. Savoury options include the Buff Italian with veg caponata, buffalo mozzarella, pesto and crushed pistachio, and the Comfort 2.0 with turkey bacon, Emmental, Bechemel and brown sauce. Sweet options feature the Sticky B.C. with vanilla Basque cheesecake, Biscoff crumbs, and the Lemon Cornetto with lemon curd custard, crispy meringue, Sicilian lemon drizzle and lemon balm.
Paddy's: Personal Pizzas and Drinks
By night, the venue shifts to Paddy's bar, serving pizza, beer and cocktails. Daniel Mullen, with over 20 years in the industry, brings his 48-hour fermented focaccia pizzas, including Margherita and Paddy's Pep. A nod to Irish roots appears in The Dubliner with Irish sausage, pickled red onion and rosemary, and the Truffle Hunter with mushroom, thyme, truffle mayo and parmesan. Pizzas range from £5 to £8.50 each, with sauces like garlic & herb, truffle mayo, and Chilli Wow, plus bar snacks.
Co-owner John Kennedy continues to co-own the venue. Outdoor seating is shared with the neighbouring Kennedy's pub, allowing customers to enjoy pints, pizzas and croissants between the two spots, with delivery to Kennedy's also available.
Day-to-Night Concept
Georgina told the Manchester Evening News: 'It's a pizza and a vibe kind of place. We've come up with this concept where we can be open from the morning until the evening, offering something really special to the area.' She added that Flakey's success in Ancoats helped establish demand, and opening in Altrincham is nostalgic for her. Daniel and John previously said: 'It's one site, two distinct food experiences, and neither compromises the other. Two brands sharing one building with completely different moods, and we think Altrincham is going to love both.'
The drinks menu includes coffee and matchas (such as Strawberry Shortcake Matcha and Banana Biscoff Latte), cocktails, premium wines, Modelo beer, and a Paddy's Punch frozen cocktail with cherry rum, strawberry, cherry and fresh lime.
