Scots woman shares 'genius' food shop hack for cheapest items

A Scottish woman claims to have cracked the code on how to make your weekly food shop as cheap as possible. The viral video was uploaded to TikTok by Eilidh Wells as she talked viewers through her exact grocery shopping routine that ensures she gets the best quality food and prices.

Three-shop strategy

Starting the video, she says: "Can I tell you the absolute best way to save money on your food shop. It's taken me 35 years to work this out. I don't know if it's just because it's local to me but the best thing you can do is start off in Iceland - but listen, hang on."

"Get your frozen stuff, the little mini frozen pizzas especially if you have kids and get your ice lollies. They also do like a five for £5 deal on kids' yoghurts. Super cheap."

"Then you want to go into B&M or Home Bargains and get all your laundry stuff, toilet paper, kitchen roll, cereal, crisps. Everything that seems to be super overpriced in the big supermarket."

"And then with all the money you save from that, you want to go to M&S and get all your fruit, get all your fresh food, get all your meals, everything else from M&S." She concludes: "It's the cheapest way I've ever shopped and it's the best way."

Mixed reactions

The video divided users in the comments as some completely agreed that shopping around is the best way to go. One wrote: "This is what I do, a £90 snack shop in Aldi that lasts two months, max £20 a month in B&M for all the cleaning bits and then I’m about £70 for my weekly shop in M&S. Cheapest way I’ve shopped."

A second replied: "This is so true! M&S just opened few mins away. Fresh stuff lasts all week unlike other places & is just nicer! Still go Aldi & B&M for cleaning & cupboard stuff ! Game changer."

Another added: "This is my exact routine. Iceland, Home Bargains and M&S." A fourth praised: "I’m sorry but this is 100% genius and the best life advice I’ve ever heard. I’d maybe add Tesco/Asda for things like bread/cheese etc." A few others recommended that Farmfoods is even cheaper than Iceland.

On the other hand, some users were left questioning how much time Eilidh spends on her shop if she is visiting multiple places. One questioned: "I do wonder the fuel cost used going multiple places though." Someone else echoed: "I actually spend more going to multiple places." A third commented: "Who’s got the time in one day to go hit three shops?" to which Eilidh replied: "Who said you need to do it in one day."
