OVO offers £300 energy bill support for winter 2026/27
OVO winter support: save up to £300 on energy bills

OVO Energy customers could save up to £300 a year through a new winter support package that includes financial assistance, free energy-saving products and help with debt. Applications for the 2026/27 Extra Support Package are now open to eligible customers across the UK, including Scotland.

The scheme is designed to provide tailored assistance to households facing financial difficulties as colder weather increases demand for heating. Support could include a £150 energy account credit, free heated throws, rechargeable hot water bottles, smart plugs and replacement household appliances. Customers may also be offered help with existing energy debt, affordable repayment plans and advice about benefits they could be entitled to but are not currently claiming.

What the package includes

OVO said the combination of support could help some households save up to £300 a year, although the amount available will depend on individual circumstances and eligibility. The figure represents a potential saving rather than a guaranteed cash payment.

Applications for the enhanced winter package opened on Tuesday, October 27, while applications for free energy-saving products will become available from Monday, November 2. Customers can check their eligibility and apply through the OVO Extra Support website.

Depending on eligibility, customers may be offered:

  • £150 energy credit: Direct financial support towards energy costs, which OVO said is separate from the £150 Warm Home Discount for eligible households.
  • Free energy-saving products: Rechargeable hot water bottles, thermos flasks, heat pads, LED light bulbs and smart plugs.
  • Heated throws: Free warming products which OVO estimates cost approximately 3p an hour to run.
  • Replacement white goods: Help with essential household appliances for customers who qualify.
  • Energy debt support: Assistance with outstanding bills, debt relief and extended repayment arrangements.
  • Benefits and financial advice: Help identifying unclaimed financial support and access to organisations offering debt and money advice.

OVO has partnered with Lightning Reach to connect customers with support from more than 2,500 organisations. The company said it has provided £220 million in support since 2022 and helped 69,000 customers last year.

Support during the winter months

The launch comes after energy regulator Ofgem confirmed a four per cent increase in the energy price cap for the period from October 1 to December 31, 2026.

Laura Bradley, Warm Home Discount Lead at OVO, said: "We know that this time of year brings immense pressure to households up and down the country. That's why we're committed to not just offering short-term relief, but delivering deep, targeted support that makes a lasting difference.

"By bringing our teams directly into the heart of communities, we can help people access the tools, advice, and financial support they need to stay warm, safe, and in control of their bills this winter."

Vanessa Northam, Partnerships Director at StepChange Debt Charity, welcomed the additional assistance. She said: "OVO is setting a strong example across the energy sector by supporting customers in financial difficulty. Its direct assistance can help ease the pressure of high energy costs, while its established referral pathway with StepChange connects customers experiencing financial difficulty with free, impartial debt advice that delivers the best solution for their unique circumstances."

How to apply for OVO's Extra Support Package

Customers can visit OVO's Extra Support application page to check the assistance they may qualify for. The online eligibility check asks about household finances, including the amount of money available each month after paying bills, so support can be matched to individual needs. OVO said the check takes approximately five minutes to complete.

Applications for products including hot water bottles, thermos flasks, heat pads, LED light bulbs, smart plugs and replacement white goods open on Monday, November 2. The package is available across the UK, meaning eligible OVO customers in Scotland can also apply.

Households struggling to pay their energy bills can also contact their supplier directly to discuss assistance. Energy regulator Ofgem advises that suppliers can offer affordable payment plans, review existing debt repayments and provide access to hardship funds or other financial support. Customers do not need to wait until they have fallen behind with payments before asking their energy supplier for help.
