A mother has issued an urgent safety warning after her seven-year-old daughter discovered a shard of glass in a loaf of bread. The child was eating a toasted sandwich on Monday, August 17, when she pulled out a large piece of glass after a few bites.
Incident Details
The bread, Tip Top's The One soft white loaf, was purchased at a Woolworths store in the south of Brisbane, Australia. It had a best-before date of August 19.
The mother shared her experience in a post on a Facebook community page: "My seven-year-old daughter just pulled this glass out of her mouth," she wrote. "Posting for anyone else who has Tip Top bread. Please check before consuming."
Company Response
Tip Top Bakeries, founded in 1949, is one of Australia's best-known bread brands, producing one million baked goods daily. Woolworths and Tip Top have launched an investigation into the incident.
A Tip Top spokeswoman told the Daily Mail: "All Tip Top baking facilities have in place robust food safety and quality assurance processes (including sieve controls for all ingredients) to ensure no contaminants are present at the time of dispatch. There is strictly no glass permitted in any of our production areas. Consumer safety is paramount at Tip Top and we are taking this incident very seriously."
A Woolworths spokesman added: "Woolworths takes food safety seriously and we are concerned by this customer report. We are investigating this with Tip Top as a priority but are not aware of any similar reports of this nature."
The Express has approached Tip Top for further comment.
