A mum has expressed her disappointment after finding an unwelcome surprise in her £5.50 Tesco Finest festive chicken and bacon wrap meal deal, claiming the packaging was misleading.
Elena Popescu, 34, from Sevenoaks, Kent, purchased the meal deal at a Tesco Express on October 30. The deal included the festive wrap, boiled eggs, and a Starbucks coffee. When she opened the wrap, she found it had been split into two sections, with a gap for the sauce pot that had been concealed by the cardboard sleeve.
Customer 'shocked' by wrap portion size
Elena, who works in retail, said: "I was completely shocked. I am literally missing a piece of my wrap. I couldn't believe it, it was not filling at all and I was so disappointed."
She added: "I feel like the Tesco packaging was misleading and I've been ripped off. For a premium meal deal, it tasted alright but it was a very small portion."
Elena said she has not contacted Tesco to make a complaint but plans to be more cautious about what she buys from the supermarket in the future. She claimed the wrap appeared no bigger than a standard meal deal main.
Social media reaction
Elena posted a video of the wrap on social media, which garnered more than 180,000 views, with numerous users also feeling the packaging was "misleading".
On the Tesco website, other shoppers who left reviews on the wrap in previous years similarly voiced their dissatisfaction with the size of the meal deal item. One review reads: "Bought in store. Looks like you're buying a 10-inch wrap with a dip - you're not. There are two three-inch wraps and in the middle of the packaging area, where the marketing stuff is, containing only the dip. It's not what you think it is."
Tesco responds
Tesco noted that the wrap is the same size as other wraps within their Finest range. It said that as the product is packaged with a dip pot, a gap will be visible between the two wrap halves once the dip has been removed.
Customers who are dissatisfied with any product are encouraged to return it with their receipt for either a full refund or a replacement.
