Leapmotor B10 review: is this the UK’s best-value family electric SUV?

The Leapmotor B10 is a family-sized electric SUV that arrives in the UK with a striking price tag. At £29,995 after a £1,500 grant from Leapmotor itself, it offers a 67.1kWh battery, rear-wheel drive, up to 270 miles of range, and a long list of standard equipment including heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic glass roof, 360-degree camera, and a 14.6-inch touchscreen.

Leapmotor is a Chinese brand, but it benefits from being part of Leapmotor International, a joint venture with Stellantis. This means the B10 is sold through existing Stellantis retailers, with 60 UK locations at launch, providing more reassurance than some new entrants. The model is simplified to one trim level, one battery size, and all equipment fitted as standard, leaving buyers only to choose colour and interior finish.

The B10 sits in the family SUV segment, rivalling the Skoda Elroq, Kia EV3, Hyundai Kona Electric, and Volvo EX30. It measures 4,515mm long, 1,885mm wide, and 1,655mm tall. Its design is neat rather than dramatic, with slim LED lights and a full-width rear light bar. Inside, the light grey interior is an option alongside shadow grey.

Underneath, the B10 uses a 67.1kWh lithium-iron phosphate battery and a rear-mounted electric motor producing 215bhp and 240Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0-62mph in 8.0 seconds and has a top speed of 106mph. The official range is up to 270 miles, with energy consumption of 16.4kWh/100km (3.8 miles/kWh). Rapid charging at up to 168kW DC can take the battery from 30 to 80 per cent in 20 minutes; 11kW AC charging is also supported.

During a week of testing in South Buckinghamshire, including motorway and local journeys, the B10 proved practical and well-equipped. The boot space and rear seats were adequate for family use, and the technology generally behaved well. The B10 also offers a plug-in range extender hybrid variant, where a petrol engine acts as a generator.
