Dad says £60 parking charge dispute cost family their home

An Uber driver says a dispute over a £60 parking charge for a car he never owned or drove cost his family their home. Dzhihan Dzhafer, 29, from Stratford, claims another motorist falsely named him as the driver responsible for the parking charge in April 2024.

Despite obtaining written confirmation from the DVLA that he was not the vehicle's registered keeper, the dispute escalated into two County Court Judgements (CCJs). The first CCJ was eventually set aside after Dzhihan paid £313 to challenge it in court.

Second CCJ appeared on credit file

However, a second CCJ relating to another parking charge at the same location appeared on his credit file a week later. "That was when it really became clear to me that this was no longer just a parking dispute or a credit issue," Dzhihan said. "It was affecting whether my family could have a home."

When their tenancy came up for renewal in October, the letting agency's insurer refused to provide cover due to the CCJ. The family lost their home on October 20 2025, forcing Dzhihan's wife and young son to return to Bulgaria while he stayed with a friend in London.

Family reunited but still without secure home

The family have since been reunited and are staying with Dzhihan's in-laws, but still lack a secure home of their own. The dispute has lasted over two years and cost hundreds of pounds in court fees, with the second CCJ still visible on his credit file despite attempts to resolve the matter.
