Thousands of power strips sold on Amazon have been recalled due to a fire risk, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on Thursday. The CCCEI Power Strips lack supplementary overcurrent protection, which can lead to them catching fire if overloaded, the commission warned.
The CPSC stated that the absence of this safety feature poses a serious threat, as “the resulting fire can cause serious injury or death from smoke inhalation and burns.” The recalled products are sold by China-based retailer Middle Way Electronics, which has received at least two reports of the strips sparking and melting. No fires or injuries have been reported as of Thursday.
More than 5,500 of the recalled power strips were sold on Amazon from April 2024 to January 2025. The strips, priced between $23 and $30, feature six receptacles with individual on/off switches and come with 6-foot, 10-foot, or 15-foot power cords. The Independent has contacted Middle Way Electronics for comment.
In a separate recall earlier this month, the CPSC warned about Wagner 900 Series Power Steamers, which can expel hot water, posing a serious burn hazard. About 700,000 steamers were recalled after 156 reports of hose overheating or nozzle issues, including over 50 burn injuries. Both recalls highlight ongoing safety concerns for products sold on major online platforms.
