Northumbria Police have issued an update after a 19-year-old man was seriously injured when his motorbike crashed into a bus shelter in Bedlington. The collision occurred on Stead Lane at approximately 6.10pm on Friday, July 24.
Emergency services attended the scene and found the rider with serious injuries, which police say are not believed to be life-threatening. He received treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital for further care.
Police Statement and Investigation
Officers believe two other people were riding as pillion passengers on the motorbike before the crash. They are thought to have left the area on foot before police arrived.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: 'At 6.10pm on Friday (July 24), we received a report via the ambulance service of a collision on Stead Lane in the Bedlington area of Northumberland. It was reported that a motorbike had collided with a bus shelter. Emergency services attended and the rider of the bike – a man aged 19 – was found to have sustained serious injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening. Two people believed to have been pillion passengers on the bike prior to the collision are believed to have left the area on foot prior to police arrival.'
Ambulance Response
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: 'We received a call just before 6.05pm last night (24 July) to reports of a motorbike which had collided with a bus shelter near Stead Lane in Bedlington. We dispatched two ambulance crews and a clinical team leader, who treated one patient with head injuries before taking them to hospital.'
