Owner Sue Deagan, who has worked at Valentes since she was 13, announced the closure in an emotional Facebook post earlier this year. 'Over the years many people have become more than just customers and it has taken a lot of thought and consideration for Sue to walk away from all she has ever known after working in the business since the age of 13,' the post read. The closing date of August 29 is particularly apt as it is also Deagan's birthday.

Estate agents Kimmitt & Roberts confirmed they have sold the premises at 45 Church Street. The news has sparked widespread reaction from locals on social media.

Residents have taken to Facebook to share their hopes for the site. One Seaham native wrote: 'We need a proper bakery in Seaham,' while another commented: 'Please don’t let it be a nail shop, barbers or vape shop.'
