Daily Star readers have hit out at water companies over planned bill increases, criticised Reform UK's Robert Jenerick over his comments on PIP claimants, and praised athlete Amy Hunt in the latest unedited 'Text Maniacs' round-up.
Water Bills Under Fire
Charles Korszewski said: "So it seems Joe public has got to fork out again for the water boards bad business plan. Easy way to keep prices fair is stop paying incompetent managers a huge salary and get rid of shareholders because they are the biggest bugbear of all the big companies."
Bex wrote: "Water companies need to be nationalised now. How dare they say prices will go up in drought. Put everybody on a water meter now what you use you pay for. Ban bonuses to these bosses of water companies and cap price increases till they have sorted their companies out. The mess is theirs."
Jerry Lawton, Chief Reporter at the Daily Star, was thanked by Paul Falconer for "calling this out", adding: "The situation is going to become a common issue and not just because of the weather. With all the houses being built, once again we haven’t increased the infrastructure to deal with all the additional water use, so our reservoirs will dry up quicker each summer."
ScouseFrank said: "I thought Andy Burnham would be different but no, he’s allowing water firms to increase bills when we’re in a drought, Disgrace!!!!" Ferret commented: "Ofwat are the water companies’ puppets." Phil Ng4 asked: "Why is there no global warming in scotland."
Reform UK Criticised Over PIP Comments
Ged Cleveland slammed Reform UK's Robert Jenerick, writing: "Reforms Robert Jenerick is a jerk treating sick & disabled people like criminals saying they will have to go on community service for PIP money... is this man so thick that he cannot understand people are on PIP because they cannot work in the first place and 90% of claimants are genuinely struggling with their health... Jenerick needs to give his head a wobble discriminating sick and disabled and concentrate on making the rich pay their fair share in tax not punishing people for being ill. Reform are dictating like their Russian pal..."
Amy Hunt Praised
SPIKE wrote: "Amy 'the incredible' Hunt, athletics golden girl, scorching round the track – hotter than our recent heatwaves!" Bigg Fan said: "Looking @ pics of Amy Hunt in Monday’s issue, how on earth did she manage to get a clean take of the relay baton, with those long finger nails? Then, crossing the finishing line to win gold, it looks like her spikes laces are loose! What an athlete."
Other readers shared jokes and observations, including a comment about a badger in court and a joke about a dentist chair. The round-up also included a request for a picture of former Corrie star Brooke Vincent.
