Jadon Sancho has edged closer to finding a new club after La Liga side Getafe made an 'official approach' to sign the winger. The 26-year-old has been without a team since leaving Manchester United at the end of last season, when he departed for nothing at the conclusion of his contract.
Sancho was originally signed by United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73m. According to Sky in Germany, Getafe's representatives are now discussing the offer with Sancho's camp.
Potential move to Spain
Should a deal go through, Sancho would become the second high-profile player to join Getafe after former Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal. Since leaving Old Trafford, Sancho has been linked with a host of clubs, including his former side Borussia Dortmund.
However, Dortmund boss Niko Kovac dismissed the chances of signing him, saying: "We're very well positioned. The squad is already very large. We have 26 outfield players, many of them young. Therefore, we don't need to concern ourselves with that."
Other interest and training stint
Italian side Fiorentina were also linked with Sancho but reportedly turned down the chance to sign him on a free transfer. Non-league club Flixton was forced to speak out after the winger was spotted training at their facilities earlier this year.
Club owner Christopher Garcia clarified: "Over the past few days, we've seen a number of posts and comments circulating regarding Jadon Sancho's visit to Flixton FC. To clarify, Jadon was not on trial with the club and was not involved in any transfer discussions. He simply used our facilities for a private training session to maintain his fitness while preparing for the next chapter of his career."
Garcia added: "We're proud that the quality of our pitch and facilities made Flixton a place where a player of his calibre felt comfortable training, and he is welcome to train at Flixton FC whenever he wishes. During his visit, Jadon was nothing but professional, humble, and generous with his time. After completing his session, he happily met with young supporters, posed for photos, signed autographs, and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him."
"Jadon is a world-class footballer who has achieved more in the game than most players could ever dream of. He deserves respect for both his accomplishments and the way he conducted himself during his visit, not the unwarranted criticism that has followed. We thank Jadon for choosing Flixton FC as a place to train and wish him every success in the next stage of his career, which will undoubtedly be at a level far above where we currently compete. Our doors will always be open to him."
