Bates Farm, a family-run farm in Warrington's countryside, is a short drive from Liverpool and offers a day out that combines pumpkin picking with the chance to pet donkeys and sheep. According to a visitor's account, arriving as early as possible is the best approach, with a 9am start allowing plenty of time before the crowds build.
Early Start and Animal Encounters
Upon arrival, staff allocate parking spaces, and the first step out of the car can determine whether wellies are needed. The farm's entrance splits in two directions: left leads to attractions and right to the pumpkin patch. A coffee cart near the entrance serves pumpkin spice and cinnamon lattes, decorated with pumpkin-shaped marshmallows.
Heading left into the barn, visitors can meet sheep and donkeys eager to be fed and petted. The barn also houses pigs and playful calves. A food court offers sweet treats, hot drinks, and hot food from stalls, including sushi from a Japanese vendor. Marshmallows are available for toasting.
Pumpkin Displays and Photo Opportunities
At the far end of the venue, a pumpkin display lets visitors browse various gourds, including naturally pink pumpkins with a glossy exterior. Photo opportunities and face painting are available for those preferring a more leisurely pace.
The main pumpkin patch offers a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colours, with pumpkins priced by size. Visitors can spend close to 30 minutes wandering the field, discovering more pumpkins beyond the leafage. Displays include rainbow-esque arrangements and pumpkins carved into bears.
After paying at the desk, visitors are advised to wash their pumpkins at home. By 10am, the farm becomes drastically busy, so an early visit is recommended. Visits can be booked online.
