Pilot's Wife Urges Passengers to Avoid Wearing White, Jumpsuits, and Stiff Denim on Flights
Pilot's Wife: Avoid White, Jumpsuits, and Stiff Denim on Flights

Travel expert Laurie, known for her YouTube channel Travel Tips by Laurie, has shared advice on what not to wear on flights. In a recent video, she recommended avoiding white clothing, jumpsuits, and stiff fabrics like leather or denim, emphasizing comfort and practicality over style.

Why Avoid White and Jumpsuits?

Laurie, who has 23 years of experience as a pilot's wife, recounted personal mishaps: "I did twice in my 23 years as a pilot's wife at the beginning, and I got smudges on my jeans from bringing my luggage down from the overhead bins and pizza stains inside the airport that some other passenger had eaten and dripped some on the boarding gate seats."

She also advised against jumpsuits, calling them "complicated" and likely to "add stress to you, especially inside a tight, cramped lavatory inside the airplane." Instead, she suggested packing such outfits and wearing "cosy, stretchy and versatile garments" to maximize comfort from boarding to baggage claim.

Health Risks of Stiff Denim

While denim is a common choice, experts warn against it due to potential discomfort. Cabin pressure causes abdominal bloating, and unforgiving materials can restrict movement and increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Loose-fitting clothing or athleisure wear are safer options.

Tight waistbands can become restrictive as the body swells, and constricting clothing can hinder blood circulation, raising DVT risk. Additionally, heavy denim and belts often cause delays at airport security checkpoints.

If you must wear denim, opt for high-stretch varieties. Otherwise, choose joggers or leggings for better comfort. This advice remains a top travel tip for 2026 as travellers head abroad.
