Gran Canaria's 'Little Venice' still hits 24C with £35 flights

Puerto de Mogán, a coastal town in Gran Canaria often called 'Little Venice', still reaches 24C in November, with flights from Liverpool starting at £35 one-way. The destination offers a sun-soaked winter escape without the premium price tag of Italy's Amalfi Coast.

A 'Little Venice' without the Italian price tag

Known for its bougainvillea-covered streets and picture-perfect marina, Puerto de Mogán sits along the Mogán coast. Whitewashed buildings line the marina, alongside colourful balconies, charming bridges, narrow arched waterways, and alleyways adorned with bougainvillea flowers.

The town boasts sun-soaked rays of up to 24C in November and up to 26C in October, with the sea sitting at a comfortable 24C, making it ideal for a winter getaway.

Family-friendly attractions and local flavours

Kevin Nelson, managing director at Sundeals, said: "Families don’t necessarily need to look at Amalfi itself to get that kind of holiday experience. Puerto de Mogán is a great example of how you can get that Mediterranean holiday feeling in a much more achievable way. You’ve got the colourful marina, outdoor restaurants and absolutely stunning streets, but also the practical things families need, like a sheltered beach and plenty to do nearby."

Beside the harbour is a sheltered sandy beach lined with palm trees. Taylor Marshall, product executive at Sundeals, recommended Taurito Waterpark with slides and pools overlooking the coast, the Yellow Submarine experience descending more than 20 metres beneath the Atlantic for around 40 minutes, and dolphin-watching trips from the harbour. Aqua Fun Mogan runs two-hour trips for around €50 per person.

Cheaper and quieter than the Amalfi Coast

Puerto de Mogán is around 37 per cent cheaper than the Amalfi Coast and offers a quieter retreat compared to other parts of Gran Canaria. The resort town of Taurito, just 15 minutes away, is recommended as an ideal base.

Marshall also suggested trying local Canarian food, such as papas arrugadas with mojo, fresh local fish, and Canarian cheeses, and recommended A Casa Mia, a small family-run Italian restaurant tucked away from the main marina.

Flights to Gran Canaria Airport from Liverpool John Lennon Airport start from £35 one-way in November, with the journey taking just under five hours, according to Skyscanner. For October visits, flights start from £30.
