Channel Islands autumn breaks: cosy stays, golden beaches

The Channel Islands, a short flight from the UK, offer an autumn escape with dramatic coastal walks, windswept beaches and cosy retreats, according to a new campaign from Hand Picked Hotels.

The Amber Hours – Autumn by Hand Picked campaign celebrates Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney, presenting short breaks that highlight the islands' wilder, more atmospheric character once summer crowds have gone.

Five hotels offering autumn stays

Five Hand Picked Hotels in the Channel Islands are each offering their own take on an autumn break, with experiences such as bracing coastal walks followed by Champagne Afternoon Tea, sea dips before warming up in a sauna, or settling by a window with a glass of wine.

Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, features golden beaches, rugged coastal paths and pretty villages. L'Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa, beside the golden sands of St Brelade's Bay, is a 10-minute drive or around 20 minutes by bus from Jersey Airport. Dating back to 1850, the hotel offers a terrace with uninterrupted views across the bay, plus a spa with a choice of treatments.

Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa, a five-star property, puts guests within easy reach of Jersey's attractions, with some rooms offering ocean views. It also has an indoor heated pool, sauna and steam room.

Guernsey and Alderney options

Guernsey offers dramatic cliff paths, hidden coves and sandy beaches. The Fermain Valley Hotel, a 15-minute drive or 20-minute bus from Guernsey Airport, is perched on a clifftop above the southeast coast, with dining options including a steakhouse, Mexican restaurant and tea rooms.

St Pierre Park Hotel, 10 minutes by car or 50 minutes by public transport from Guernsey Airport, has an award-winning spa, a nine-hole golf course, a lake and gardens, with master suites offering private garden and hot tub. Hotel Jerbourg, the number one choice on Booking.com based on guest reviews, sits on the clifftop at Jerbourg Point with views as far as France on a clear day, and has two restaurants, a coffee shop with sun terrace, and an outdoor pool open from May to September.

On Alderney, Braye Beach Hotel sits beside a stretch of pristine white sand with turquoise waters steps from the door. The four-star hotel offers sea views, the Terrace and Beach Bar, The Vaults for wines and steaks, and the Divers Inn pub.
