Buxton, a historic spa town in the Peak District, is just over an hour by train from Manchester and is England's highest market town, sitting at about 1,000 feet above sea level. Options range from tearooms to restaurants and bars. Lubens Bar & Kitchen serves seasonal plates and local ales near the Opera House. The Olive Tree Restaurant is a family-run Mediterranean and Turkish grill, while The Vault Buxton, originally a chemist, offers fresh food from local producers. No.6 The Square is a quintessential English tearoom. RedWillow, a taproom in a converted Edwardian bank, serves cask, keg, and cans plus cocktails, with live music and tasting events. Getting there

Buxton's railway station is on Station Road, with trains to Stockport and Manchester Piccadilly every half hour at peak times and hourly off-peak. Local coach companies offer packages, and a bus station on the Market Place serves routes to Stockport, Glossop, Sheffield, Derby, Bakewell, and Macclesfield. Six main roads lead into Buxton, including the A6 from Manchester.
