Thelo Aasgaard has revealed he needed a career change and that's why he opted to leave Rangers.
The Norwegian international joined Anderlecht on a season-long loan deal from Gers on the penultimate day of the summer transfer window. The deal includes an option for the Belgian outfit to buy Aasgaard outright, with the fee thought to be set at around £6million, with Aasgaard still having two years left on his Ibrox contract by the time his loan spell comes to an end.
Surprise Loan Exit
Fans were left somewhat surprised at the decision to let Aasgaard leave on loan, with the move coming immediately before an away win at Falkirk, which the 24-year-old had traveled to with Derek McInnes' squad before making a hasty exit to get the deal done.
Now he's opened up on why he opted to join Le Mauve et Blanc, admitting he needed a change of scene after just one season in Light Blue.
Career Change Motivation
“There is so much that attracted me to this club. It is not just the size of the club," he told the club's TV channel. "But the style of play and everything else about it was really attractive to me. And yes, I think I needed a change at this point in my career. And I am really happy to be here.
“The time had come to take a new turn in my career. I wanted to show off my technical ability in another country. I learned the physical side of the game in England, particularly because I wasn’t the tallest in youth football and had to battle against bigger lads.”
