Liverpool John Lennon Airport has updated its security rules for liquids, power banks, and vapes ahead of the summer holidays. The changes aim to streamline the security process and enhance safety.
Liquids
Passengers no longer need to remove liquids from their hand luggage. Containers of 100ml or less can remain in bags without a clear plastic bag. Exceptions include medication with a prescription label and baby food. Items over 100ml must be removed for X-ray screening. The term 'liquids' covers gels, aerosols, pastes, canned goods in sauces, perfume, makeup, e-cigarette cartridges, and lighters (one per person).
Power Banks and Vapes
Following a recent change by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), power banks must be carried in hand luggage only, never in hold bags. Passengers are limited to a maximum of two power banks per person, and they cannot be used to charge items during the flight. Vapes, e-liquids, and spare batteries must also be kept in hand luggage to allow cabin crew to respond quickly if they overheat. Vaping and smoking are prohibited on board.
Medicines
Essential medicines may be permitted in quantities above 100ml but will be subject to authentication. All medicines should carry a prescription label clearly showing the passenger's name.
Food and Powders
Food and powders should be packed in hold luggage where possible. Carrying them in hand luggage can delay security screening as they may obstruct X-ray images. If powders or foods must be in hand luggage, passengers should allow extra time.
Additional Shopping Bags
All airlines flying from Liverpool John Lennon Airport allow one bag of airport shopping onboard in addition to hand luggage allowance.
Airport Security Advice
Liverpool John Lennon Airport shared a video on Facebook advising passengers: take your tray from underneath and place it on top; empty pockets and place jackets and belts into the tray, either under or inside your bag; leave liquids and electronics inside your bag; then push the tray forward and proceed to the scanners.
