A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the Courier: “We got a call at 7.19pm reporting a large fire in a straw field near Milnathort. We sent two appliances from Perth and Auchtermuchty, followed by a third one from Glenrothes. The stop message came in at 1.21am.”

Historic site background

Sir John Balfour founded the estate that would become Burleigh Castle in the 15th Century, with the building taking shape in the early 1500s. It was visited by Mary of Guise in 1540 and King James VI on multiple occasions in the same century.
