Emergency services attended a fire at Fiddlers Ferry power station in Warrington shortly before 1pm on Thursday (October 15). Nearby residents said it looked "out of control" as smoke billowed out of the former power station.
Fire engines and road closure
Fire engines from Penketh, Widnes, Runcorn, Lymm, Birchwood and one of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service's weekday fire engines attended. As a precaution, nearby residents have been asked to keep windows and doors closed while the incident continues.
The A562 Widnes Road is currently closed eastbound from Dan's Road Roundabout, Widnes, to Warrington.
Contained within chimney area
The M.E.N understands the fire involves a large industrial hopper. At 2pm, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed everyone on site has been accounted for. Crews have established inner and outer cordons, secured a water supply, and confirmed that the fire appears to be contained within a chimney area.
