20mph Speed Cameras in Merthyr Tydfil Activate Next Week

New 20mph speed cameras in Merthyr Tydfil are set to be activated next week, GoSafe has announced. The road casualty reduction partnership for Wales said highways authorities install fixed cameras where the risk of a collision is highest.

Camera Activation Details

On June 16, two new fixed 20mph speed cameras will be switched on at A4054 Cardiff Road, Troedyrhiw, covering both northbound and southbound directions. GoSafe stated it will process the offences captured by the camera scheme and initially use advice letters for the first four weeks each camera is active.

The partnership explained: "These letters allow us to engage first and tell people the correct speed limit, instead of using educational courses or prosecutions. An advice letter will only be offered to people who haven’t already received one in Wales. We recognise that most people want to drive safely through their communities."

GoSafe added: "However, if they were unaware of the correct speed limit, they may be regularly passing a fixed camera and unknowingly breaking the law. This could put people at risk of losing their licence. Using the advice letters supports our aim of making our roads safer and only using enforcement as a last resort."
