The Salter Crisp and Go air fryer, priced at £74, offers similar sleek looks and cooking versatility to the Ninja Crispi, which costs £249.99 – a difference of £175. The budget model has been tested and found to give Ninja a serious run for its money.
Design and capacity
The Salter model comes with two glass bowls – a larger 4L and a smaller 1.5L – both with lids, allowing batch cooking or storing leftovers without needing another container. The glass base makes it look and feel less bulky than a traditional air fryer, and it blends seamlessly into the kitchen.
The Ninja Crispi, reviewed by Vicky Jessop, includes two glass canisters – a 5.7L and a 2.3L – also with lids. It has seven functions and can reach 240 degrees, 40 degrees higher than most other air fryers, giving it an edge in crisping, frying and grilling.
Performance and cooking results
The Salter handled chips, sausage rolls and pies with no issues, crisping them perfectly. It proved particularly useful for cooking chicken and meats, as marinating could be done directly in the glass bowl. The lack of a built-in light was noticeable, and the glass gets very hot, requiring extra care when plating food.
The Ninja cooked roast chicken to perfection, though vegetables were a mixed bag – string beans were crispy, but broccoli was charred and carrots raw. Reheated pizza was a surprise winner. The all-glass container allows seeing food cook in real time and simplifies cleaning.
Specifications and verdict
The Salter has a capacity of 4L (with additional 1.5L), wattage of 1500W, and a temperature range of 60-200°C, priced at £74.99 on Amazon. The Ninja has a capacity of 5.7L, wattage of 2,050W, and a temperature range of 40-240°C, priced at £249.99 on Sharkninja.co.uk.
The Salter is among the most affordable glass air fryers on the market, while the Ninja, despite its high price, feels like it could replace an oven and hob, according to Jessop's review.
