Oura Ring 5 Launches as World's Smallest Smart Ring
Oura has unveiled the Oura Ring 5, the latest generation of its popular smart ring, now 40% smaller than the Oura 4. Measuring just 2.28mm thick and 6.09mm wide, it is crafted from lightweight, non-allergenic titanium and is designed to feel like a piece of jewellery rather than a fitness tracker. The ring tracks over 50 health metrics, including sleep stages, heart rate, temperature trends, daily readiness scores, and blood oxygen levels.
Advanced Health Tracking in a Compact Design
The Oura Ring 5 features a redesigned sensing system with more powerful LEDs and improved signals for accurate readings. It supports Live Activity Tracking, allowing users to monitor walking pace and distance in real time via the Oura app. When paired with a third-party heart rate monitor, it can display live heart rate during workouts. The ring also integrates with over 100 apps and provides personalised health insights through the Oura app and membership service.
Pricing and Battery Life
Priced at £399, the Oura Ring 5 requires a £5.99 monthly subscription for full features. Despite its smaller size, it offers up to six to nine days of battery life on a single charge, thanks to a completely reworked battery design. The ring is also more durable and scratch-resistant than previous generations, with new finishes including an updated gold and a deep rose option.
New Software Features and Privacy
Oura has introduced new software features for both new and existing rings, including GLP-1 weight loss jab tracking to monitor dosage and effectiveness over time, and a 'health radar' that alerts users to potential issues such as changes in blood pressure or sleep breathing. A new privacy feature called Time-based Data Deletion allows users to control what data is stored over time while retaining long-term trends.
'The [Ring 5] is the most capable wearable we’ve ever made,' said Holly Shelton, chief product officer at Oura. '[It’s] small enough to fit seamlessly into everyday life and significant enough to set a new standard.'
