Gatwick Airport has announced a major change that will see the UK's first robotic parking service for drivers at an airport. London Gatwick are expected to launch the service from next month.
Passengers will drop off their cars into dedicated garages at the airport's South Terminal. Then, while they head off to catch their flights, keeping their car keys with them, robots will lift the cars by the tyres and move them to secure parking spots.
Hassle-free parking for holidaymakers
This change is expected to make parking hassle-free for holiday goers, easing any stress pre flight.
The parking service, being offered with Stanley Robotics, is expected to work for around 95% of car models - but drivers with "unusual dimensions or features" have been warned they should check beforehand.
Oli Bedford, Gatwick's head of airport access, described it as a "real game-changer", adding: "It's quick, easy and completely hassle-free."
When passengers are away they will be able to keep their keys at all times. It will also mean that on return, jet setters cars are ready and waiting. From the drop off point, the terminal is only a short walk or bus ride.
